Latifjon Yuldoshev, detective inspector at the Interior Ministry’s office for Sughd province, and Mohammad Naimov, an officer at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS)’s office in Sughd’s Asht district, have been jailed after driving Komil Khojanazarov, former member of the banned Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT), to suicide.
The Khujand military court on June 19 sentenced Latifjon Yuldoshev and Mohammad Naimov to 13 and 12 years in prison, respectively.
“Latifjon Yuldoshev was charged with torture causing death by negligence (Article 143’ (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code), illegal detention (Article 358 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code) and large-scale fraud (Article 247 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code) and Mohammad Naimov was charged with torture causing death by negligence (Article 143’ (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code),” an official source at the Khujand military court told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the 31-year-old resident of Asht district, Komil Khojanazarov, was arrested on August 18, 217 and released on August 24, 2017 after paying 6,000 somoni.
On August 26, Khojanazarov left a dying video message before committing suicide. “In his video message, Komil Khojanazarov told about use of torture against him,” the source said.
