Resident of the city of Tursunzoda, Sadullo Qazoqov, has got a lengthy jail term for an attempt to join the Islamic State (IS) terror group in Syria.
The Tursunzoda city court has sentenced Sadullo Qazoqov to twelve years in prison, according to the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office.
The sentence followed his conviction on charges of participating in foreign military conflicts (Article 401 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code). Qazoqov will serve his term a high-security penal colony.
Sadullo Qazoqov reportedly got in touch with representatives of IS terror group through social networking sites in early 2018 and “accepted their invitation to join the group in Syria.”
In late February, he flew to Istanbul, Turkey. Qazaoqov was reportedly detained by Turkish police on February 27 and extradited to Dushanbe on March 9.
