A bill on the access to information about activities of the judicial bodies that was drafted by the government has reportedly been sent for consideration to the country’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament.
A source within the government says the bill is aimed at ensuring the transparency and fairness of court proceedings, expanding collaboration between courts and mass media, and increasing the level of citizens' confidence in the judiciary.
“The bill, in particular, stipulates the principles for the provision of information by courts to the media, obligations of the parties (courts and media) in the dissemination of information and so forth,” the source said.
According to him, the draft law will also define the principles for the participation of representatives of media in court proceedings, and obtaining information from the archives of the courts.
The deputy head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Legislation and Human Rights, Ravshan Rajabzoda, says the Majlisi Namoyandagon will discuss the bill at its next regular sitting that will take place on May 14.
