Based on data from the Interior Ministry, there have been 2,283 serious crimes reported in Tajikistan over the first five months of this year, which was 8.4 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
Over the reporting period, 40 cases of murder and murder attempt have been reported in the country (a 29 percent increase compared to January-May 2020).
46 cases of serious bodily injury have been reported in Tajikistan over the first five months of this year (a 27.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year).
In January-May this year, 16 cases of rape and rape attempts have been reported in Tajikistan (23.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year).
Over the reporting period, 3,203 thefts, including 716 burglaries, have been registered in the country in January-May this year.
Meanwhile, the number of cases of robbery and human trafficking has decreased over the first five months of this year by 12.5 percent and 40 percent, respectively.
The number of theft of weapons and ammunition decreased from six cases in January-May last year to one cases in January-May this year.
Over the reporting period, the number of officially registered crimes has decreased only in Dushanbe (a 16.4 percent reduction compared to January-May 2020), while in Khatlon province, the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), districts subordinate to the center and Sughd province the number of officially reported crimes in January-May this year has increased by 30 percent, 14.5 percent, 12.3 percent and 11.7 percent, respectively compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, compared to January-May last year, there was an 8.2 percent increase in the number of reported economic crimes, including bribery and large-scale embezzlement of funds.
