DUSHANBE, August 17, 2012, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will deliver a statement at the sixty-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is due to open at UN headquarters in New York on September 18.
The General Debate will open on September 25. The General Debate will commence with the opening of he session fro about a week.
Tajik president is scheduled to deliver a statement at the session on September 26, a well-informed source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.
During his stay in New York, Emomali Rahmon is expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings with senior representatives of international organizations as well as some heads of state.
Tajik leader is also planned to hold a meeting with representatives of the United States business community, the source added.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA/GA) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and the only one in which all member nations have equal representation. Its powers are to oversee the budget of the United Nations, appoint the non-permanent members to the Security Council, receive reports from other parts of the United Nations and make recommendations in the form of General Assembly Resolutions. It has also established a wide number of subsidiary organs.
The General Assembly meets in regular session intensively from September to December each year, and thereafter as required.
