Tajik capital hosts CIS foreign ministers’ meeting

Dushanbe will host a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on May 13.

Russian news agency TASS says top Russian diplomat Sergei Lavrov arrived in Dushanbe Wednesday for participation in the CIS foreign ministers’ meeting.

The Russian foreign minister reportedly arrived in Dushanbe from Muscat, where he had been on a working visit.

The CIS foreign ministers are expected to discuss prospects of cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

A special attention will be given to the issues related to international security and further expansion of humanitarian and scientific collaboration.

Meanwhile, the Tajik MFA information department says foreign ministers from Central Asia’s nations plan to hold a meeting on the sidelines of the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign ministers.

The Council of Foreign Minister of the CIS Member Nations is the main executive body ensuring cooperation in the field of foreign policy activities of the CIS member states on the matters of mutual interest, adopting decisions during the period between the meetings of the Council of the CIS Heads of State, the Council of the CIS Heads of Government and by their orders.  The first session of the Council took place in August 1993.
