An official opening of a three-tier flyover at the Qariyai Bolo roundabout in Dushanbe is expected to take place on July 10.
A source within the Dushanbe Administration says the ceremony will be attended by President Emomali Rahmon and his son Rustam Emomali, who is the Mayor of Dushanbe.
Recall, the official opening of this flyover was set for June 25, but it was postponed indefinitely due to imperfections.
A state commission for acceptance of work has reportedly revealed deficiencies and it has been decided to postpone the official opening of the facility.
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) says that all deficiencies had been addressed and the facility is ready for opening.
The construction of the flyover at the Qariyai Bolo roundabout began on February 26 last year and it was planned to be completed in August 2020.
The project includes construction of a 125-meter bridge at the third tier and four pedestrian subways.
Construction of the flyover is part of the Dushanbe-Uzbekistan Border Road Improvement Project.
Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in September 2014 signed a loan agreement on the Dushanbe-Uzbekistan Border Road Improvement Project, which provides for rehabilitation of a 4.6-kilometer section of the road within the urban area (from the Qariyai Bolo National Medical Center to the Western Gate of Dushanbe).
The Project covers rehabilitation and upgrade of the 62-kilometer road linking the city of Dushanbe to the Uzbek border and connecting Tajikistan to the Russian Federation to the north (via Uzbekistan) with onward links to Turkey and Western Europe (e.g., via Caspian Sea routes). The road is a part of the CAREC Corridor Program which seeks to expand trade and improve competitiveness through focused action by all multilateral partners (i.e. ADB, EBRD, IMF, IDF, WB and UN) in transport initiatives, trade facilitation, energy, trade policy, and economic corridor development.
The road reportedly consists of 5 sections. The upgrade of Sections 2 to 5 (from Western Gate of Dushanbe to the Tajik – Uzbek border) of approximately 57 km in length was financed by ADB grant. Section 1 of approximately 4.6 km in length is located within the urban area (between the Qariyai Bolo National Medical Center and the Western Gate of Dushanbe) and includes 82nd and Qariyai Bolo roundabouts.
The three-route flyover was built at Dushanbe’s 82nd roundabout in Dushanbe in September 2018.
In all, some 20 flyovers are expected to be constructed in Dushanbe by 2030 as a part of the municipal redevelopment plan for Dushanbe.
