Tajikistan celebrates President’s Day today

Tajikistan is celebrating President’s Day today.  Usually, exhibitions of books by Emomali Rahmon have been organized at all libraries and museums across the country in this occasion.

On this day, meetings are taking place in all military units across Tajikistan.

Tajikistan got a new holiday on April 15, 2016 as lawmakers in Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have endorsed amendments proposed to the country’s law on holidays.

November 16 was reportedly chosen to be celebrated as President’s Day because the Constitution of Tajikistan was adopted on November 6, 1994 and presidential elections were held in the country on the same day, and President Rahmon President was officially sworn in for the first term on November 16, 1994.

There were two candidate dates for President’s Day: November 16 and October 5, which is Rahmon’s birthday.

A law to endow incumbent President Emomali Rahmon with the “Leader of the Nation” title was adopted at the end of 2015.
