By Khujand mayor’s instruction residents of private houses in the city will use only coal and firewood to cook and heat their houses and not use electric appliances for these purposes.
Municipal officials are ordered to carry out an explanatory work among the population on this subject, Mamour Yusufi, a spokesman for the Khujand Administration, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the mayor also ordered to turn off street lights and regulate the work of electricity-powered signboards for shops and cafes.
By this instruction lighting of all streets, with the exception of the main street – Ismoili Somoni Avenue – has been turned off for already third day. .
“By this instruction more than 9,000 street lights have been turned off,” Abduaziz Norkhoujayev, the head of the outdoor lighting department at the Khujand directorate of housing and communal services, told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.
“We turn off street lighting from 24:00 to 6:00. We give lighting until 7:15 am so that the wipers could clean in the city, then we turn off the lighting points again,” Norkhoujayev said
According to him, in November-December, they used about 100,000 kWh of electricity for street lighting.
