Persons who did not serve in the army barred from working in law enforcement agencies

Members of Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament on January 20 endorsed amendments proposed by the president to a number of the country’s laws.

Thus, the amendments, in particular, stipulate that persons who did not serve in the army are barred from working in prosecutor’s offices, courts, anticorruption agency, Customs Service as well as the Service of Execution under the Government of Tajikistan.

The proposal not to hire new employees who did not serve in the army has reportedly come from President Emomali Rahmon.

The amendments do not apply to the current employees of the mentioned agencies as well as women and persons who are exempted from service in the army in accordance with the country’s legislation.
