On Tuesday May 25, President Emomali Rahmon had telephone conversations with Khatlon governor Qurbon Hakimzoda and chairpersons of a number of districts in Khatlon and Sughd provinces and districts subordinate to the center.
The conversation with Khatlon governor reportedly focused on the issues related to mudslides and floods that hit the province this month.
The head of state ordered to speed up work to eliminate disaster effects in the city of Kulob as well as in Vakhsh and Abdurahmoni-Jomi districts, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
The head of state also had telephone conversations with chairpersons of Panj, Rasht, Nourobod, Lakhsh, Sangvor, Faizobod, Kuhistoni Mastchoh and Devashtich districts as well as the city of Panjakent
Emomali Rahmon reportedly ordered them to accelerate the rates of grain and fodder harvests and increase export of fruits and vegetables to foreign countries.
He also ordered them to continue preparations for the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence, which will be celebrated on September 9 this year.
According to the latest data, the torrential rains of starting from May 6 and continuing until May 13 triggered floods, landslides and mudflows in a number of districts of the southern province of Khatlon that partially damaged 400 households and fully destroyed 128 households.
