Tajik President today sent a message to Serdar Berdymukhamedov to congratulate him on his landslide victory in Saturday’s presidential election in Turkmenistan, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
“The results of the vote fully confirmed your high political authority and society’s support for your country's course on comprehensive social and economic development and strengthening its international positions,” the message says.
Rahmon also noted that Tajikistan attaches significant importance to the relations of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan based on the principles of strategic partnership.
Turkmenistan leader’s son Serdar Berdymukhamedov won nearly 73 percent of the vote in Saturday’s presidential election, with his nearest opponent in a field of nine candidates, Hydyr Nunnayev, garnering just 11 percent of the vote.
The diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were officially established on January 27, 1993 by signing of the Protocol "On the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan."
