KHUJAND, June 25, 2013, Asia-Plus — More than 63,000 bushes of wild hemp have reportedly been detected destroyed in the northern province of Sughd.
“63,500 bushes of wild hemp were revealed and destroyed in the province on June 24,” an official source at the Interior Ministry’s office for Sughd province told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, 30,000 hemp bushes were revealed in the Palos jamoat of the city of Chkalovsk and 30,000 other hemp bushes were revealed in the Bobojonghafurov district. “Besides, 3,500 hemp bushes were detected near the village of Qushtegirmon, Spitamen district,” the source added.
The anti-drug operation, dubbed Kuknor-2013 (Poppy 2013), was launched on My 20 and will run through November this year.
This annual operation, involving representatives of law enforcement agencies, local authorities, ministries of agriculture and health, as well as the committee for TV and radio-broadcasting, is dedicated to detect and destroy drug crops across the country.
