DUSHANBE, August 15, 2013, Asia-Plus — Uzbekistan will close its common border with Tajikistan for three days in connection with celebrations to mark its Independence Day.

“According to notification we have received from the Uzbek authorities, Uzbekistan will close crossing points on its common border with Tajikistan from September 1-3,” Khoushnoud Rahmatulloyev, a spokesman for the Border Guard Department, the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan has not yet informed us about temporary closure of its common border with Tajikistan in connection with their national holiday,” the spokesman noted.

We will recall that Uzbekistan celebrates its Independence Day on September 1 and Kyrgyz celebrates its Independence Day on August 31.
