DUSHANBE, May 5, 2014, Asia-Plus – The Isfara-Vorukh road reopened to traffic on May 5 after being blocked for two days.
According to Kyrgyz border service’s press center, the road was blocked by residents of the Kyrgyz village of Aksai on May 3. They reportedly blocked the road because some 40 Tajik nationals prevented residents of Aksai village from driving their livestock to summer pastures.
For the purpose of preventing tensions from escalating into conflict, border representatives of the two countries held a meeting. During the meeting, the sides reached an agreement that the Tajik side will provide unimpeded driving of livestock of Kyrgyz nationals to summer pastures, Kyrgyz border service’s press center noted.
Representatives from the Main Border Guard Directorate of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan confirmed the fact that the road had reopened but declined further comment on the incident.
