As of the end of last week, Batken authorities in Kyrgyzstan are taking steps to resume the construction of the Aksay-Tamdyk road, which passes through Isfara territory of Tajikistan, according to the information provided to Asia-Plus by the Soghd provincial administration.
According to the source, the neighboring countries’ attempts at resuming the road construction, with reference to a permit from the Kyrgyz Transport Ministry, are contrary to the previous agreements between the two countries.
According to him, Kyrgyz side’s attempts at starting the construction of Aksay-Tamdyk road causes concern among the Isfara border area population, but local Tajik authorities are so far able to keep the situation under control.
The source noted: “Isfara Mayor’s Office sent a number of letters to the Batken District Administration on the issue, but has not received a reply so far.”
