Tajik, Iranian interior ministers discuss cooperation in combating extremism

DUSHANBE, February 20, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda yesterday met in Tehran with his Iranian counterpart Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli.

According to the Tajik Interior Ministry press center, the two discussed issues related to jointly combating terrorism, extremism, separatism and trafficking n drugs and weapons.

They reportedly noted that to address modern challenges and threats was possible only by joint efforts.

Iranian minister said that bilateral cooperation between the two friendly and fraternal countries, sharing common culture, is expanding, the source said.




Meanwhile, IRNA reports Ramazon Rahimzoda and Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli signed a security agreement.

 


Based on the agreement, the two capitals will cooperate on fighting against extraterritorial organized crimes, terrorism and money laundering as well as clashing with arms trafficking and smuggling of commodities.


In their Thursday meeting, the two ministers further agreed to tighten border security measures since both countries have joint borders with Afghanistan, which is the main producer of narcotic drugs.


 

On the same day, Tajik interior minister held talks with Iranian Police Commander Brigadier Esmaeil Ahmadi Moghaddam, IRNA reports.

Speaking to reporters, Tajik minister reportedly called for expansion of cooperation in fight against extremism, terrorism and drug-trafficking.

Issues such as terrorism, extremism, drug-trafficking, smuggling weapons and the organized crime are the common threats posed to the countries of the region, Tajik minister said.

Iran”s police commander, for his part, reportedly referred to historical, cultural and religious affinities between Iran and Tajikistan and said the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to broaden all-out cooperation with Tajikistan.

Rahimzoda and Ahmadi Moghaddam reportedly agreed that the two countries police experts in technical and professional fields to exchange visits in coming months to share their invaluable experience in the fields.

Yesterday afternoon, Tajik minister visited various departments and got acquainted with the capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police, IRNA reports.

Tajik minister referred to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries last year and said expansion of police cooperation is among content of the MoU.

Given consolidated ties between the two countries, Tajik minister said sharing common language, religion and culture have brought the two nations much closer.

He expressed the hope to make use of Iran”s experiences in fight with terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and weapons” smuggling.

Tajik police experts will be sent to attend professional educational programs and workshops in Iran, Rahimzoda said.
