DUSHANBE, February 20, 2015, Asia-Plus — Two Afghan nationals have reportedly been detained with a large amount of raw opium in the Ishkashim district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
The Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) press center reports two Afghan nationals were detained in the village of Zumudg on suspicion of drug trafficking. Ten packages of narcotic drug tested positive to raw opium weighing nearly five kilograms were confiscated from them.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug traffickers under three articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 200 (3) – large scale drug trafficking; Article 289 – smuggling; and Article 335 – illegal border crossing; an investigation is under way.
