reports that a total of 38 foreign nationals, including 10 women and 15 children, were detained in Turkey”s province of Adana for allegedly trying to enter Syria illegally.
The provincial directorate of security was quoted as saying that the foreigners came from seven different countries, namely Azerbaijan -14, Indonesia – seven; Iraq – 5; Kyrgyzstan – 5; Iran — 3; Tajikistan – 2; and Afghanistan – 2.
The detainees were reportedly sent to the provincial immigration department for further deportation.
Turkey shares an 800-kilometer long border with Syria and Turkish officials have repeatedly said that they are cooperating with other countries to stop the flow of foreign fighters into its volatile neighboring countries.
Thousands of foreign fighters from all over the world are believed to have joined terrorist organizations, including Daesh (the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), in Syria and Iraq.
