DUSHANBE, November 10, 2015, Asia-Plus — The U.S. Embassy Dushanbe, in partnership with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), sponsored an Explosive Ordinance Disposal training for 32 demining specialists from throughout the region from October 26 – November 5 in Dushanbe.

According to the U.S. Embassy, this training, the latest in a series of seven progressive events, focused on countering improvised explosive devices and prepared participants to become certified trainers for explosive ordinance disposal.

Participants for the training included representatives from Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.  At the graduation for the specialists from Tajikistan and Afghanistan on November 5, acting Deputy Chief of Mission Michael Mancini praised the‎ potential for regional cooperation demonstrated by this training forum.  He also noted the benefit to regional security and stability that can be achieved by building the capacity to safely remove and destroy landmines, explosive remnants of war, and hazardous explosive materials.  U.S. Embassy Dushanbe has collaborated with OSCE on this effort since 2013.

The United States Government is committed to continuing its support and assistance to the people of Tajikistan. Since 1992, the American people have provided over 1 billion U.S. dollars in programs and humanitarian aid that support Tajikistan’s democratic institutions, health care, education and economic growth.
