A high-ranking police official holding the rank of lieutenant-colonel is suspected of a large-scale fraud.
According to the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, criminal proceedings have been instituted against deputy chief of one of departments at the Interior Ministry’s Criminal Investigation Directorate for a large scale fraud.
The anticorruption agency’s website says he took totaling 43,500 U.S. dollars from two citizens promising to drop criminal proceedings instituted against their relatives and reimburse damages caused to them.
The Interior Ministry has not yet given any comment on this case.
