The Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of Tajikistan on September 12 hosted a meeting to discuss the results of the first stage of an annual anti-drug operation, dubbed Kuknor 2017 (Poppy 2017), according to the counter narcotics agency press center.
The meeting participants included representatives of the Security Council, the DCA, the Interior Ministry, the Customs Service and the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), Khoushnoud Rahmatulloyev, a spokesman for the DCA, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
The first stage of the Operation Kuknor-2017 took place from May 1 to August 31 and 2,542.6 kilograms of narcotic drugs and 4,700 synthetic drug pills have been seized in the country over the report period.
Besides, 1.5 million bushes of wild hemp have been discovered and destroyed during the first stage of the anti-drug operation, the spokesman added.
The Operation Kuknor, involving representatives of law enforcement agencies, local authorities, ministries of agriculture and health, as well as the committee for TV and radio-broadcasting, is designed to interdict narcotics trafficking and eliminate poppy cultivation in the country.
This annual anti-drug operation is carried out in two stages: from May 20 through August and from September 1 through November.
