Officers from the Interior Ministry Organized Crime Control Directorate have reportedly prevented two terrorist attacks at the beginning of this year in Rasht (eastern Tajikistan) and Shahrinav (western Tajikistan) districts
In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the chief of the Interior Ministry Organized Crime Control Directorate, Colonel Shodi Hafizzoda, noted on August 3 that terrorists planned to kill police officers in the mentioned districts.
“Several nationals of Tajikistan, who are members of the banned Islamic State (IS) terror group, have been detained on suspicion of preparing those attacks,” Hafizzoda said.
He refrained from giving further details.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda noted today that 274 nationals of Tajikistan have been detained over the first six months of this year on suspicion of having membership in terrorist and extremist organizations.
“Among them are members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood group, Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and Salafi group,” the minister said.
