Last year, the Drug Control Agency (DCA) seized 183 kilograms of narcotics drugs, which was 108 kilograms fewer than in 209, DCA director Habibullo Vohidzoda told reporters in Dushanbe on February 4.
According to him a totaled included 19 kilograms of heroin, 95 kilograms of raw opium, 40 kilograms of hashish, 15 kilograms of cannabis and 15 kilograms of potent psychoactive substances in the form of powder and synthetic tablets (2,195 pieces).
40 criminal groups, including 3 organized criminal groups, were reportedly discovered and broken up last year.
In all, all the country’s law enforcement agencies last year seized 2,425 kilograms of narcotic drugs, which is 788 kilograms or 40 percent more than in 2019.
Of this amount, 183 kilograms of narcotic drugs were seized by the counter-narcotics agency, 1,117 kilograms by the Interior Ministry subdivisions, 1,097 kilograms of by the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) subdivisions, 22 kilograms by the Customs Service, and five kilograms by the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption.
Over the reporting period 700 drug-related crimes were detected and registered by the country’s law enforcement authorities, which was 118 cases more than in 2019.
In 2020, the counter-narcotics agency reportedly detected 144 drug-related crimes, which was 13 cases or 9.9 percent more than in 2019.
“Today, there are 55 drug addicts per 100,000 population in Tajikistan, which is much fewer than in other countries. 5099 drug addicts were officially registered in Tajikistan last year,” the drug control chief officer said.
