U.S. Embassy to deliver a new project to strengthen border monitoring capacity of the Tajik Border Forces

On Monday February 28, the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), announced the launch of a new project to contribute to the protection of the Tajik-Afghan border from the illegal movement of weapons and drugs, irregular migration, and public health risks.

According to the U.S. Embassy, this project will provide trainings to country’s Border Forces officers and improve infrastructure on the Tajik-Afghan border over the next 36 months at a cost of $900,000.

Since 2002, the U.S. government has delivered various projects to strengthen border security through the renovation or rebuilding of border outposts, border crossing facilities, and three training centers.  It has also provided other assistance projects, including equipment upgrades and trainings to maintain security and stability in Tajikistan.  This project is another milestone to highlight the United States’ and Tajikistan’s strong security cooperation.

The U.S. Embassy is implementing several projects focusing on advancing border security management through skills development and infrastructure renovation to enhance security and stability in the region.
