JICA expands cooperation with its training ex-participants

An annual meeting of JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Program, formerly called the Training Programs,  took place at the National Library of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on March 17 to exchange experiences and good practices of post-training activities conducted in Tajikistan and outcomes of JICA Mini-Grant Projects implemented in 2020.

The JICA Training Program, now known as KCCP is a long-term capacity-building program that has been implementing for Tajikistan since 1993.

To-date, a total number of participants has exceeded 2,380, and many of them are actively working in various sectors contributing to development of Tajikistan, according to JICA Tajikistan Office.

The meeting was reportedly attended by representatives of ministries, committees and agencies.  Mr. Kikuchi Takeshi, Representative of JICA Tajikistan Office in his opening speech stated that the Government of Japan always pays special attention to enhance human resource capacity in Tajikistan and he is excited to hear how ex-participants of training courses of JICA are utilizing the obtained knowledge in Japan.

During the first part of the meeting, five Mini-Grant Winners presented the outcomes of their projects with other attendees and received certificates from Chief Representative of JICA, as a symbol of thankfulness. Group of ex-participants of various sectors (health, transport, agriculture and irrigation) presented their activities and good practices introduced to Tajikistan.  Seminars and field visits to different regions of Tajikistan were conducted by their initiatives and JICA’s assistance in 2020.

At the second part of the meeting, the ex-participants discussed the challenges that they faced during their activates, especially COVID-19 pandemic, that enabled them to fully implement action plans, as well as ways how to continue working during post COVID-19 situation.

Mr. Takasaka Muneo, Chief Representative of JICA Tajikistan appreciated active discussions throughout the meeting, and stated that JICA Tajikistan would take into account all the valuable ideas and proposals that were mentioned today.

JICA, as one of the leading development partners in the area of human resource development, will continue to support ex-participants’ activities in Tajikistan, in consideration that they are a great asset for socio-economic development and a bridge for promoting friendship between Tajikistan and Japan.

JICA began its technical cooperation with Tajikistan in 1993 by inviting Tajik officials to gain knowledge and experience on governance and macroeconomics development. As of March 2020, a total number of participants to JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation Programs, formerly called the Training Programs, has exceeded 2380 people. JICA Office was established in 2006 in Tajikistan and since then various Grant Financial Assistance and Technical Cooperation projects have been implemented more dynamically, aiming at improving living standard of Tajik people for the sectors such as agriculture and rural development, water supply, health, transport, energy, capacity building as well as SME promotion. JICA’s cumulative investment portfolio in Tajikistan in all sectors comprises 44 projects amounting to more than 418.5 million USD (94.66 million USD for Technical Cooperation and 324 million USD for Grant Assistance), including 14 ongoing projects.
