India and Tajikistan have signed a memorandum on Indian grant assistance for implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) in Tajikistan.
According to India’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the document was inked on December 16 here by Mr. Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Mr. Viraj Singh, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Tajikistan.
Under the document, the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan will propose projects whose cost does not exceed TJS 16.94 Million (equivalent to approximately US$1.5 million) each for implementation as Government of India grant in aid projects.
The projects should relate chiefly to socio-economic development, livelihood support, empowerment of women, child welfare and facilitation of community life, particularly through creation of infrastructure in the education, health, training, agriculture and agro-industry, micro-irrigation, renewable energy, trade, transport and communications sectors.
The HICDP will directly contribute to improving the quality of life of the people of Tajikistan and demonstrate India’s commitment to the well-being and prosperity of its Tajik brothers and sisters, the Indian Embassy says.
In addition to the agreement signed today, India is also executing Phase I of an 8-land highway project from Chortut village to Ayni roundabout in Dushanbe at a cost of approximately US$17.54 million. This also is a grant in aid project.
About 35% of the work has been completed so far with balance 65% of the work to be completed by October, 2022.
Similar documents have reportedly been signed with the other four Central Asian countries.
