Tajik speaker asks to increase registration term for Tajik citizens from 3 to 10 days

DUSHANBE, October 24, 2008, Asia-Plus  –New global challenges such as climate change, financial crisis, terrorism and extremism oblige us to combine efforts to address them, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), said, addressing the Third Tajik-Russian Forum “Tajikistan-Russia: Potential of Tajik-Russia Interregional Cooperation” in Dushanbe today.  

He noted that establishment of economic cooperation between the regions of Tajikistan and the Russian Federation could become an important result of the forum’s work.  

Tajik speaker also asked Russian MPs participating at the forum to promote solution of the issue related to increasing the term of registration for Tajik citizens in the Russian Federation from three to ten days  

“Labor migrants cannot register and find jobs within three days, therefore, we ask to increase this term from three to ten days,” Tajik speaker said. 

For his part, Sergey Mironov, Chairman of the Federation Council (Russia’s upper chamber of parliament), expressed confidence that the forum would study the progress of implementation of agreements reached between the parliaments of the two countries.  

We will recall that according to specialists from Tajikistan’s migration service, most of Tajik national were deported from Russia for failing to register within three days of their arrival in Russia
