Tajik national killed by Moscow police

Date:

DUSHANBE, January 14, 2013, Asia-Plus  — Tajik national has reportedly been fatally wounded as Moscow police officers have opened fire.

According to the Tajik migration service agency’s office in Moscow, a 25-year-old resident of the Muminobod district in Khatlon province, Jumakhon Azizov, died from firearms related wound in the central district hospital in Odintsovo, Moscow oblast last Saturday.

The source says that according to Captain S. Ranchugov, an officers from the Odintsovo police station, police officers attempted to stop a car for a routine document check on the night of January 11-12 but five Tajik nationals that were in the vehicle allegedly “did not react to the police officer’s command to stop properly and police officers were forced to open fire.”

As a result, Jumakhon Azizov sustained a fatal wound.  Four other Tajik nationals – Shuhrat Sharifov, Saidshoh Shohvali, Ahmadkhon Khayrahmad and A. Jabborov (all of them are residents of Khatlon province) – were arrested.

Tajik Ambassador to Russia Abdulmajid Dostiyev has taken the investigation into the incident under his control, the source said.

Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports that a Tajik citizen has been shot and killed by police in Moscow after allegedly threatening officers with a knife.  RFE/RL reports that according to police, two officers attempted to stop a car for a routine document check but the car made a rapid U-turn and sped off.  Police reportedly pulled the car over and attempted to arrest the five men in the vehicle when Azizov allegedly pulled out a knife.  The four other men — all Tajik citizens — are in police custody.  The Tajik Embassy said they heard about the incident through the media instead of being informed by the Russian authorities, RFE/RL said.
