DUSHANBE, January 17, Asia-Plus – On Thursday January 17, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
According to the president’s official website, the sides considered a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.
They, in particular, discussed state and prospects of further expansion bilateral cooperation in spheres like politics, security and defense, energy, trade and investment, labor migration, etc.
Implementation of cooperation documents signed here during Russian President Putin’s visit that took place last October was among major topics of the talks.
The sides reportedly expressed satisfaction with the current level of two-way trade between their countries, which exceeded 1 billion USD last year.
They noted that signing of agreements on energy cooperation, conditions for Russian oil product deliveries to Tajikistan and easing some of the registration restrictions for Tajik citizens coming to Russia would promote further development of trade between the two countries.
Rahmon and Lavrov also discussed international and regional issues being of mutual interest, the source said.
Meanwhile, Russian foreign minister told reporters after a meeting with President Emomali Rahmon that agreements on labor migration cooperation and conditions for delivery of Russian oil products to Tajikistan were expected to be signed in the first quarter of 2013.
