DUSHANBE, October 21, 2008, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday October 21, President Emomali Rahmon received Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Ramazan Abdulatipov.
According to presidential press services, the two discussed the progress of implementation reached by Tajikistan and Russia before, in particular agreements reached during President Medvedev’s official visit to Tajikistan in August this year.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction of the Sangutda-1 hydroelectric power plant as well as concerted actions of the power-wielding structures of the two countries.
In the meantime, they agreed that it is necessary to speed up implementation of other agreements, including development of gas and oil fields in Tajikistan.
Rahmon and Abdulatipov also discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia in the fields of agricultural, culture and science, as well as preparations for the Third Tajik-Russian Inter-Parliament “Tajikistan-Russia: Potential of Interregional Cooperation” due in Dushanbe on October 24-25.
