Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his North Korean counterpart Pak Ui Chun will discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation in politics and trade during the talks on October 15, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said on Tuesday, in connection with the official visit to Moscow of the North Korean foreign minister on October 14-17.

“A substantive exchange of opinions on the whole range of Russian-North Korean relations will be held, including exchanges at the political level, humanitarian cooperation, regional ties; special attention will be paid to bilateral trade,” Nesterenko said.

Moscow “notes with satisfaction the cooperation between our countries in the international agenda, and the main issues discussed at the United Nations and other international organizations.

“The parties will discuss the situation in the Asian-Pacific region. Special attention will be paid to the situation in northeastern Asia, in particular to the “six-party talks over the nuclear problem of the Korean peninsular, and the working out of the mechanism to ensure peace and security in northeastern Asia in the working group led by the Russian Federation.

“Russia and North Korea have traditionally maintained close good neighborly relations. A reliable basis of these relations are the friendship and cooperation treaty of 2000, and the accords reached at top level.
