DUSHANBE, March 26, 2013, Asia-Plus  — Representatives of official and business circles of the United Kingdom are expected to pay a visit to Tajikistan in April.

British Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Robin Jeremy Ord-Smith, says the delegation will arrive in the country on a trade and economic mission and its members will include representatives from well-known British companies interested in investing in Tajikistan’s economy.

“Representatives of many British companies will arrive in Tajikistan and they will consider opportunities of working here,” Ambassador Ord-Smith noted.

According to him, British companies’ interest in investing in Tajikistan’s economy has increased after Tajikistan’s admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

“Many our companies have become more interested in Tajikistan’s economy and business opportunities in the country,” said Mr. Ord-Smith.  “To-date, more than 50 companies have expressed interest in investing in Tajikistan’s economy.  Besides, British companies operating in the region and having their offices in Moscow are also considering the opportunities of working in Tajikistan.”

He also noted that some British companies have already been involved in Tajikistan’s economy.

British diplomat considers that Tajikistan’s economy is developing at rapid pace.  “Investment climate in the country is improving year by year, new laws facilitating activities of foreign companies in the country are being adopted.  Of course, improvement of the business environment in the country is connected to a certain extent with Tajikistan’s joining the WTO.  However, admission to this international organization does not mean the end of the road; on contrary, there is a lot of work still to be done.  There will have to change some laws in order to bring them into compliance with international standards that, in turn, will facilitate further improvement of the business environment in Tajikistan.”
