KHUJAND, October 10, 2008, Asia-Plus — 81 new public associations have been registered in the northern Sughd province this year.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Malika Boboyeva, a chief specialist with the Sughd justice directorate, said that the majority of them are located in the city of Khujand and the remainder are in Isfara, Jabborrasulov, Bobojonghafurov, Asht, Ayni, Zafarobod, Shahriston, Mastchoh, Istaravshan, Chkalovsk, and Konibodom.
“Among founders of these organizations are also persons whose previous organizations failed to meet the new requirements of the re-registration process,” Boboyeva said, noting that the total number of reregistered public associations in the province declined from 522 to 145.
We will recall that Davlat Sulaymonov, an official with the Minister of Justice, told reporters in Dushanbe on April 22 this year that since the introduction in February of a new, more restrictive registration law on international and nongovernmental organizations and public associations, no new group has been approved by the ministry. He added that there has been a sharp decrease in the number of registration applications since the new laws took effect.
According to statistics, 27 international organizations failed to meet the new requirements of the re-registration process and the total number of reregistered public associations declined by two-thirds, from 3,130 to 1,400.
