DUSHANBE, September 30, 2008, Asia-Plus — All categories of farms in Tajikistan have produced more than 40,800 tons of fruits by September 30, which is 43 percent of this year’s target or 27,000 tons more than in the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
Tajik farmers have pledged to produce 95,000 tons of fruits this year.
Tajik farmers have also produced more than 18,000 tons of grapes by September 30, which is 1,500 tons more than in the same period of 2007.
According to Narzullo Dadaboyev, some 90 percent of fruits and grapes in the country are produced by private farmers.
As it had been reported earlier, new fruit orchards have been laid out 2,579 hectares and new vineyards have been planted on 654 hectares this year. Besides, 1,146 hectares of fruit orchards and 527 hectares of vineyards have been rehabilitated this year.
