DUSHANBE, June 20, 2013, Asia-Plus – Officers from Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) have reportedly thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of precursor chemicals from Pakistan to Tajikistan via Afghanistan.  Two Tajik nationals have been arrested.

An article “ANF Foils Bid to Smuggle Chemicals to Tajikistan” posted on The News International’s website on June 20 says ANF Wednesday foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of precursor chemicals from Pakistan to Tajikistan via Afghanistan.

“About 103,563 kilograms of acetic anhydride/ hydrochloric acid, used in the manufacturing of heroin has been seized. Three smugglers including two foreigners of Tajik origin have been arrested,” said a press release.

“In pursuance of an information, it said, the ANF staff in Peshawar conducted a raid at Al-Khyber Ittehad Goods, Ring Road, Peshawar and recovered 2799 canes of acetic anhydride/ hydrochloric acid from the godown.  It is a record seizure of its kind not only in the country but at a global level, the communiqué said.  Owner of the company along with two foreigners of Tajik-origin were arrested.”
