DUSHANBE, September 19, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Chief of the main border directorate within the State Committee for National Committee (GKNB), Major-General Sherali Mirzo, I attending the 60th session of the council of the CIS border troops commanders that is opening in Baku, Azerbaijan today.  

According to the GKNB center for public relations, the CIS border troops commanders will exchange views on the present situation on the CIS outer borders and topical problems of cooperation between the CIS border services.  

            More than twenty issues have been tables to the session’s agenda.  Among them are issues related to countering illegal migration, trafficking in weapons, narcotics drugs and tangible assets via the CIS borders, etc.  

            The session participants are also expected to consider the progress of work on creation o automated operational information exchange system, as well as draft recommendations on harmonization and unification of national laws of the CIS states on state border and border services.  

            The previous session of the council of the CIS border troops commanders was held in kiev, Ukraine on April 24-25, 2008.

The council of the CIS border troops commanders of border troops was established on July 6, 1992.  It is a corporate body of the CIS council of state leaders and the CIS council of heads of government.  It considers the matters of coordination of the CIS borders’ protection.
