DUSHANBE, October 19, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajik national has reportedly been detained in Uzbekistan for keeping Quran verses in his mobile phone.  Representatives from the Tajik MFA say it is not the first such a case in Uzbekistan.

Tajik national Kholmurod Mirzorahimov says that his son, Zubayd Mirzorahimov, has allegedly been detained in Uzbekistan for keeping Quran verses in his mobile phone.

“The incident took place on September 20 when my son was traveling to South Korea via Uzbekistan.  He has been engaged in business for already five years.  Uzbek customs officers detained him at the Tajik-Uzbek border for keeping Quran verses in his mobile phone and handed over to the Uzbek national security agency,” Kholmurod Mirzorahimov said.

According to him, he has applied to the Tajik MFA for help.  Representatives of the Tajik MFA say an appropriate note was sent to the Uzbek side through the Tajik Embassy in Tashkent on October 1 but they have not received reply so far.

Meanwhile, representative of the Tajik MFA says that it is not the first such a case in Uzbekistan.  According to him, they have received many complaints from Tajik nationals about such cases.
