Farming units to set prices for raw cotton by themselves

Date:

DUSHANBE, September 1, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Henceforth, not the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) but farming units themselves will set prices for raw cotton they yield, Saidmurod Bahriddinov, head of the crop production department within a MoA, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

He reminded that an appropriate resolution on this subject under the number of 111 was issued by the government in 2007.  “Under this resolution, dehqon (peasant) farms will set prices for raw cotton they yield by themselves,” the MoA official said.

He further added that the ministry is currently working out the document to set a constructed value for one kilogram of raw cotton, depending on its growth.  “This document should not have influence on the rate set by farmers; it just needs for the ministry itself,” Bahriddinov noted.
