CSTO security council secretaries to meet in Yerevan to discuss the situation in Caucasus

 DUSHANBE, September 1, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The security council secretaries from member nations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (SCTO) will meet in Yerevan, Armenian on September 3 for a regular session, according to CSTO press service. 

The present situation in Caucasus is expected to be among major topics of the session. 

The session is aiming to discuss the situation that emerged in Caucasus after Georgia’s aggression on South Ossetia, tendency of development of the military-political situation in the zone of CSTO responsibility, as well as measures to address arising challenges and threats, and a progress of implementation of the resolutions adopted at the previous CSTO security council secretaries’ sessions that were held in Minsk, Belarus and Dushanbe, press release said.  

 The CSTO security council secretaries will also consider a draft agreement on training of personnel for law enforcement, firefighting, emergency and epical services of the Organization, issues related to combating drug trafficking, a draft plan on creation of an information security system and a draft plan of collective actions of the CSTO states on implementation of the UN global anti-terrorist strategy for 2008-2012.   

 The meeting participants will also coordinate draft regulations on the procedure of working out, financing and implementing the CSTO interstate targeted programs and outline priority areas of the activity of the Organization in the second half-year of 2008 and the first half-year of 2009.  

The CSTO groups Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
