DUSHANBE, March 31, 2014, Asia-Plus – Fayzobod regional administrators have denied report about collection of money from local residents for improvement of the central part of the district administrative center by president’s visit as baseless.

More than 50 people, including 37 members of the Fayzobod legislature and representatives of the district administration, came to Asia-Plus’s office today after publication of the report entitled “Fayzobod authorities collect money from local residents for president’s visit.”

Head of Fayzobod chairperson’s office Safarbek Nourzoda, who is also member of the Fayzobod legislature (Majlis), says that Asia-Plus has released an incorrect report and information that representatives of the district administration have been collecting money from local residents for president’s visit does not correspond to the facts.

“Information that the district authorities allegedly warned local residents against putting awkward questions is also not true,” said Nourzoda.  “Moreover, it is unknown yet whether the president will meet with local residents or not.”

We will recall that a resident of the Fayzobod district, who wanted to remain unnamed, told Asia-Plus on March 31 that local authorities are collecting money from local residents for president’s visit, which is scheduled for April 10.  The regional administration representatives allegedly demand that each family pay 50.00 somoni.  The money is reportedly needed for whitewashing buildings located in the central part of the district administrative center.

Another resident of Fayzobod noted that the district authorities had warned local residents against putting awkward questions, “otherwise measures will be introduced against them.”

The president is expected to arrive in Fayzobod to inaugurate a number of facilities.
