DUSHANBE, April 28, 2014, Asia-Plus — Floods caused by recent torrential rains killed five people in the Hisor Valley (Central Tajikistan) last Friday (April 25), bringing the total number of people killed by natural disasters in the country this month to 23, according to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CES).

An official source at CES says that torrential rain on Friday 25 caused floods in the Roudaki district and the city of Tursunzoda.  “Three children were killed in the Roudaki district and two young men were killed in Tursunzoda,” the source said

 According to him, floods also seriously damaged many hectares of agricultural land in the Hisor Valley.

Besides, a mudslide that was caused by heavy rains in the administrative center of the Yovon district (Khatlon province) destroyed a bridge.  No injured was reported in Yovon, according to the source.
