DUSHANBE, May 13, 2014, Asia-Plus — The government has drafted a law on amendments to the country’s law on combating corruption.

Under this law, a gift with a value of 400 somoni or more that is presented to a public servant by private entity, foreign national, local, foreign or international organizations, representatives of governments of other nations should be handed over to relevant bodies.

MP Ismoil Talbakov notes that those amendments meet international standards for the practice of combating corruption.

“It is known that sometimes during conclusion of economic agreements between the government and local or foreign contractors, valuable gifts are presented to public servants that are actually a bribe,” the parliamentarian noted.

According to him, the majority of gifts presented to President Emomali Rahmon during his foreign trips have been handed over to the National Museum, where they have been put on display.
