Majlisi Milli seconds law on participants of cleanup operation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

DUSHANBE, February 22, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament (Majlisi Milli) has seconded 21 laws adopted by the Majlisi Namoyandagon during the period from December 2006 to February 2007.

The ninth session of the Majlisi Milli presided over by its speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev on February 22.  

Some of the adopted laws provide for amendments to the present laws in connection with president’s decree to wipe out a number of ministries and committees.  While the laws on public service, natural monopolies, joint-stock companies, physical training and sports will replace the old ones.  

The laws on geographical indication, social protection of participants of cleanup operation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and state support for enhancement of the country’s agrarian sector were adopted for the first time. 

Commenting on the law requiring social protection of participants of cleanup operation at the Chernobyl plant, Tajik Academy of Sciences President Mamadsho Ilolov said that at present 2,158 participants of the cleanup operation at the Chernobyl plant live in Tajikistan.  Of them, 1,092 are disabled people and number of them continues to increase, according to Ilolov.
