DUSHANBE, July 29, 2014, Asia-Plus — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi is arriving in Dushanbe on July 30 on an official visit.

On July 31, Mr. Wang is scheduled to hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, the Tajik MFA information department reports.

On the same day, Mr. Wang will join his counterparts from member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in a SCO foreign ministers’ meeting.

On August 1, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to hold talks with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Aslov, the source said. 

Mr. Wang Yi (born on October 19, 1953) is a Chinese diplomat and politician.  He has been the Foreign Minister of the People”s Republic of China since March 2013.

Mr. Wang had formerly served as China”s Vice Foreign Minister, Ambassador to Japan, and Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office.  He was appointed as China”s Ambassador to Japan in September 2004 and Wang served in this post until September 2007.  In June 2008, Wang succeeded Chen Yunlin as the director of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of PRC.  Wang has been a member of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in session between 2007 and 2012 and the current 18th Central Committee in session between 2012 and 2017.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and the People”s Republic of China were established on January 4, 1993 and China is now among the top three trading partners of Tajikistan.

        In 2013, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and China reportedly amounted to some 2 billion U.S. dollars.  Over the past six years, China has invested approximately 500 million U.S. dollars in development of Tajikistan’s economy.
