DUSHANBE, July 29, 2014, Asia-Plus — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is arriving in Dushanbe on July 30 for an official two-day visit, according to the Tajik MFA information department.
On July 30, Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to hold talks with Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Aslov and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
On the same day, Russian foreign minister is also expected to meet with Tajik young diplomats, the source said.
On July 31, Sergey Lavrov will participate in meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member nations
The SCO foreign ministers hold regular meetings, where they discuss the current international situation and the SCO”s interaction with other international organizations.
Sergey Lavrov (born on March 21, 1950) is a Russian diplomat, who has been the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation since 2004. His nomination to the Foreign Minister”s office was approved by two Russian presidents, in 2008 by Dmitry Medvedev and in 2012 by Vladimir Putin.
Prior to that, Lavrov was a Soviet diplomat and Russia”s ambassador to the United Nations from 1994 to 2004. Besides his native Russian, Lavrov speaks English, French, and Sinhala.
Founded by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on June 15, 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an intergovernmental organization. Except for Uzbekistan, the other countries had been members of the Shanghai Five; after the inclusion of Uzbekistan in 2001, the members renamed the organization.
The Organization currently has six full members — China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, Iran, Pakistan and India are four observer states, and SCO’s dialogue partners include Belarus, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
We will recall that Tajikistan has assumed the SCO rotating presidency for this year.
