DUSHANBE, December 25, 2014, Asia-Plus — Deputies of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have endorsed amendments providing for raising excise tax on mobile phone services.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on December 24.

Presenting the bill on amendments to the country’s tax code, Deputy Finance Minister, Jamoliddin Nouraliyev, noted that the amendments provide for revising taxes on separate types of activity.

“Under these amendments, taxes will be imposed on incomes of the National Bank of Tajikistan and the sale of shares and property.  Besides, the excise tax on mobile phone service will be raised and the system of the return of assets from offshore zones will be simplified,” the deputy minister noted.

According to MP Safarali Gulov, the excise tax on mobile phone services will rise from 3.0 to 5.0 percent.  Besides, the tax on the property granted on lease in Dushanbe and Kulob will be raised.

The bill was passed by the lower house of the parliament but still needs to be passed by the upper house before heading to the president”s desk for approval.

We will recall that the law on a 3.0 percent excise tax on mobile phone services was passed in Tajikistan on November 28, 2010.
