DUSHANBE, June 16, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan has all necessary potentials to become one of main suppliers of farm produce to member nations of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC), Deputy Agriculture Minister, Shukrullo Rahimnazarov, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, favorable natural and climatic conditions allow Tajikistan to develop its agrarian sector.

Last year, Tajikistan produced 420,000 tons of cotton, 931,000 tons of grains, 662,000 tons of potatoes, 850,000 tons of vegetables, 157,000 tons of fruits and 117,00 tons of grapes, the deputy minister said.

“Despite existing difficulties with providing with the population with food, favorable natural and climatic conditions give us an opportunity to provide both ourselves and the EAEC market with fruits and vegetables,” Rahimnazarov said, pointing to the necessity of solving the existing problems impeding farm produce exports as soon as possible.
