Two US deputy assistant secretaries expected to arrive in Tajikistan this week

DUSHANBE, February 2, 2015, Asia-Plus — Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asia Daniel Rosenblum and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) Steven Feldstein are expected to arrive in Dushanbe on February 5 on a five-day visit, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

Working within the State Department’s Bureau for South and Central Asian Affairs, Mr. Rosenblum oversees U.S. policy towards and diplomatic relations with the five Central Asian states: Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

Mr. Steven Feldstein is responsible for DRL’s work in Africa, international labor affairs, and international religious freedom.

We will recall that in an interview with the Voice of America (VOA)”s Uzbek service, Mr. Daniel Rosenblum said on January 22 that the United States is giving 308 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs) and 20 Armored Recovery Vehicles to Uzbekistan.  The top U.S. diplomat for the region also said that the Unites States had made similar offers to other Central Asian countries, and that Tajikistan and Kazakhstan had expressed interest.   

Meanwhile, the Tajik MFA information department reports that Deputy Head of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Mr. Wang Xiaotao, heading a Chinese government delegation arrived in Dushanbe on February 1 on a five-day working visit.  

Mr. Toivo Klaar, Head of Division for Central Asia, European External Action Service Central Asian Division of European External Action Service is expected to arrive in Dushanbe today on a four-day visit, the source said.
