DUSHANBE, February 2, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) is meeting today to consider the issue of an official registration of parliamentary candidates included by the Social-Democratic Party (SDP) in its party list, Abdumannon Dodozoda, the head of the CCER’s office, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
We will recall that 14 candidates are included in the SDP list and SDP deputy leader Amniyat Abdunazarov is at the top of the list. SDP leader Rahmatillo Zoyirov is put third on the list.
In all, 104 candidates included in party lists are expected to compete for 22 seats in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament).
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Islamic Revival Party included 27 candidates in their party lists each, SDP – 14 candidates, the Agrarian Party (APT) – 13 candidates, the Communist Party – seven candidates, the Socialist Party (SPT) and the Party of Economic Reforms of Tajikistan (PER) – six candidates each, and the Democratic Party (DPT) – four candidates.
The 2015 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan will take place on March 1, 2015.
Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli). Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies. Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
